All right! So if you somehow missed it, there’s now a teaser trailer out for Fallout 4! Check it out:
How’d you like that bad boy? If you’re a fan of previous Fallout games, then it was probably pretty exciting for you! Other people may have found it to be a little light on action or compelling visuals. Sure, the nuclear explosion and flying vehicles were somewhat interesting, but I could totally see someone unfamiliar with the Fallout universe being underwhelmed by this teaser.
Though, it is important to remember that it is just a teaser, and there will be more interesting trailers to come in the future. Of course, there was a cute widdle puppy doggy, so maybe that’s all we need to see. Dogs in the Fallout games and Skyrim have always been useful and interesting.
-Boston is another town steeped in American history. I loved Fallout 3, but we really don’t need another retread of locations similar to those in Fallout 3. Nor do we need uninteresting locations, like I found those in Fallout: New Vegas to be. I worry that Boston will be one of those two.
-This game looks remarkably colorful. This isn’t a bad thing, but it is different from previous Fallout games, which had a distinct hue to them, either greenish or somewhat yellow. I mean, aside from maybe New Vegas, I can’t think of a location that had this much color in it in the previous games:
It still looks grungy and not necessarily out of place, but it is damn vibrant for post-apocalyptic location.
-I wonder if the dog is going to be a permanent member of your party. I read that this game will be very story-driven, with your character actually speaking, so I wonder if the dog acts as your Elizabeth in this game, finding money and moving the story along. I doubt that will be the case, but who knows? They may be mixing things up for this game.
-I could be wrong, but this may be the first time that we’re seeing functional airships in the Fallout universe. Apparently they’d been mentioned and downed ones have been seen previously, but this is the first time they’re going to come into play, which is exciting! I know that I’ve mentioned Bioshock: Infinite’s Elizabeth already, but the airships and vibrant colors are making me think that Bethesda took a page out of Irrational/2K’s playbook. Whether intentional or not, there are worse places to take inspiration from.
All in all, I’m very excited to see more of this new game, and it makes me really want to go back and play some Fallout 3. That game is fun as hell and I’m looking forward to what they’re going to do next with this world. Let’s get back to the wasteland!
